When Prayer Does Not Work

Hello!

We often hear or see the quote “Prayer Changes Things.”  Some have either stopped praying altogether or don’t pray as much because they have prayed and their situation, circumstances, and the troubles of the world have not changed. Thus, we see people taking matters into their own hands. Whoop there it is! Satan has us right where he wants us. No trust in God.

I thought like this once; especially after my mother passed away at the beginning of my senior year in high school. I was devastated. I had not given my life over to Christ fully yet but I prayed for God to heal my mother and that did not happen. So why should I trust a God that says He does the impossible and he could not keep my mother here? I got this. I will do things DeLonda’s way. I praise God that he relentlessly came after me.

What Changed?

My perspective; did it happen overnight? No. I gave my life to Christ at the age of 21. There were some events that were happening in my world at the time that led me to giving my life over because I realized I had no idea what I was doing and the only ONE who could pull me out was the Lord. My perspective around the passing of my mother did not change until years after my walk with the Lord. Until that point the truth was that I was still deeply hurt and upset with the Lord. One day the Father showed me how even in her death (although it hurt) He worked things out for the good for little ole’ me.

What Now?

What I want you to know is that the purpose of prayer is not always to immediately change our circumstances but our perspective around our circumstances. Here are 5 more ways we can look at prayer as we draw closer to God…

  1. Prayer may not change our situation but it will mold, shape, and transform us more into Christ-likeness.
  2. Through prayer our faith increases and we are able to find rest in HIM.
  3. When we plug into prayer we shift our focus and worship from our problems to Christ.
  4. Through prayer we will get answers (it may not always be what we want) and we are strengthened to endure the process of our trials.
  5. As we continue to come to God, He is working out true peace and contentment in our hearts and minds. This leads to us knowing the truth and walking in freedom.

God is not oblivious to what is going on in your life. He is so compassionate, so forgiving, and so gracious. Change your perspective today and change your life…with Christ! This is freedom that the world knows nothing about and you get to go through in order to give glory to God and share His goodness with others. Because not only have you read about it, but you know about His goodness on a personal level! HALLELUJAH!!

Only By His Grace,
